Bonsai in California

Postby weeble on Tue May 19, 2009 10:43 pm

Ok, I'm going to be making a trip through California in a few days, heading down 101 from northern CA to San Francisco, then across to I5 down to the LA area. So, since I know we have a number of people more familiar with these areas than I am, I'm asking for some good ideas for Bonsai places to hit on the way. I'll be in Costa Mesa for a few days and I'll be checking in on the way. Any good clay places would also be appreciated!

Suggestions anyone?

Thanks!

There is nothing in San Francisco the city. Johnny Uchida's Grove Way Bonsai is in Hayward and may be worth a visit.

If you take I-5 down to the Grapevine you will miss all of the civilazation in California. Blue Oak Bonsai in Modesto would be my pick for the best nursery for bonsai in central Ca.

In LA, Chikugu En is a must see as well as House of Bonsai. You may see San Gabrial Nursery or Fuji's in Sylmar. For sheer enjoyment the Huntington Botanical Gardens in San Marino is really worth your time, probably the best exhibit of bonsai on the west coast.

Cheers, Al
