At least that's what we will call it for now...

I gotta admitt I studied this for some time. I have tried but must admitt that I can not find a pleasing line in this material. I guess that is not to say there may be one there, I just don't see it.

If I were shopping I would probably pass this one by.

I hope I can learn by someone more experienced.

The long straight bit between the base and the upper branching makes this trunk a tad difficult to find a convincing line. The base has interest, so I would suggest that it be reduced below and image built upon that.

That is the line I had decided on, but I am thinking about keeping the short stubs which are budding well. There really is no taller tree here, without growing out that small branch for the new trunk line. It's a very fast grower, so I hope to have quick results, relatively speaking.

FOUND THE LINE

Postby Chris Johnston on Sun Apr 26, 2009 4:45 pm

Here's the front after cutting it back today. It has budded quite vigorously and I'm going to have fun with it. Some of the stumps may be removed but I haven't decided yet.

Here's the back:

Actually I chopped it yesterday with a little help from my good friend Tom Conley. This was the line I had chosen when I collected it.

Thanks everyone for your ideas! I hope to post a progression on this one as it develops.

This tree has definitely identified as privet. Here are more recent photos:

Hey Chris, Good to see you posting.

Russian olive or privet ... its put on some nice growth this year! Being a privet you'll have nice tree in no time flat. :D
