OKC Show...part Deux

Postby greerhw on Mon Jun 08, 2009 8:47 am

We had a good turnout for us this year, about 300 guests (we have folks sign a guest book so we can keep track). We only had one vendor this year, a member with a small bonsai nursery, but his sales were good. My bud Frank at Sonlight Nursery was taking care of business with his new job in Kansas and couldn't make it down. We had three demo's , two Saturday and one Sunday. I did one on Saturday, it's hard to keep people's interest for an hour when you pruning a juniper. You won't believe this, but I kept my eight folks mesmerized for the entire hour and they were asking for more............... Actually they were asking me to unlock the door, so they could leave. I would like to have had the opportunity to finish working on my demo tree, it needed the apex pulled down, more foliage pruning and of course wiring, but you can only do so much in a hour.

Keep it green,
Harry

What a nice collection! I see you don't have any screens behind the trees. Is it a problem that trees are viewed from front and back? Many trees aren't up to that quality.

When we have our normal amount of trees, all the trees are viewed from the front. We are just a small club and couldn't afford screens for all the trees.

I really like the geometry of the table layout. It provides a meandering feeling. I remember in the pictures from last year it was also nice. The benches placed so that people can sit and view a particularly nice tree is a great touch.

Thanks Barbara, it's always a fun weekend hanging with other bonsai nut's and answering people's questions. I never realized there were so many misconceptions about bonsai until I joined a club and pulled duty keeping a eye on the trees during the show and talking to people.

Keep it green,
Harry
