I may have gone for the simplest option but I kinda liked the view of the trunk here.
Perhaps the reverse side on pic #1 following the same line.

Given what the pics show, I'd go with something like this. Front could be tweaked 10-15 degrees either way.

could be a very powerful cascade or semi-cascade! .. red are branches, yellow are jin .. liberal application of shari and/or sabamiki. Foliage clouds thin and unevenly spaced (unlike my quick-n-dirty image)

It'd be a fun one to work on, for sure :)
