Al, do you use the Humic Acid by itself when doing layers, as the growng medium? I would have thought that the cut area would need more moisture then that, also i thought the Humic Acid would dissolve over a short period, leaving no medium. Can you please explain this for me. Thanks Al.

I make my layerings in either moss or akadama straight from the bag. The Akadama I use is rolled into small balls, perfectly round giving me huge air interchange.

The humic acid I use for the layers or cuttings for that matter is pure leonardite. Humic acid in brown coal form and at 40 percent strength.

After the layer is made and hormone applied I cover it with moss or soil and place a "pinch" of the humic acid right over the layer area. After roots form in 15 to 20 days I begin applying fertilizer cakes with 4 percent humic acid.

May I ask why you prefer the Hyuuga to the regular local pumice? Are there any significant advantages besides the looks?
