The Notch Method

Fli on a similar deal with a juniper when we had a recent demo with Roy Nagatoshi, he did something similar but not the same, he sawed about half way thru, and bent the branch to where he wanted it, and sealed it up as is. Kind of like pre breaking it, but this way there wasn't a sudden snap. Although one of our members tried the ole snap the twig behind him, after it snapped Roy turned around and said he doesn't fall for that one anymore, especially when he knows that it won't break because of the pretreatment.

here is my experiment on tryin the notch method. I took my ugliest BC to try on. Needless to say my bends came out too severe than I wanted but hey so far it is still kickin Very Happy

Nice going Steven! The angle of the notch cut can always be a bit tricky to get it going the way you want...but looks like you took the leap and got the hang of it.

I gotta ask ... is that cut paste or caulk on your notches Wink

Thanks Tom. It is a cut paste. Its that new kind that is a liquid but dries like the putty type. Better than that gooey crapola I first got.
